Secondary Education

Secondary education in Ireland begins at age 12 and typically lasts 5–6 years.

It is divided into:

  • Junior Cycle (ages 12–15) – concludes with the Junior Cycle examinations

  • Senior Cycle (ages 15–18) – leading to the Leaving Certificate, the national qualification required for university admission
